On 8 August 2024 the Minister for Health, Mental health and Ambulance Services, and Minister for Women Shannon Fentiman, MP directed the Queensland Mental Health Commissioner Ivan Frkovic to undertake a process regarding health services provided at Wolston Park Hospital between the 1950s and 1990s.
This process is to occur under section 28 of the Queensland Mental Health Commission Act 2013 and the Commission is tasked with providing a Special Report on this matter to the Minister.
The Commission is currently planning the process to ensure that it is conducted in a way that is respectful, supportive and sensitive to the needs of people who may have concerns about health services provided at Wolston Park Hospital between the 1950s and 1990s.
Wolston Park Hospital was also known as Queensland Mental Hospital, Brisbane Mental Hospital, Brisbane Special Hospital, Wolston Park Psychiatric Hospital and Wolston Park Health Service.
It is important to create a safe environment where people with lived-living experience can share their stories and to offer support throughout the process.
If you need support at this time, please visit the Need help section of our website for resources, or reach out to:
