About the Summit

The Leading Reform Summit is the Queensland Mental Commission’s annual two-day forum for leaders in Queensland’s mental health, alcohol and other drugs, suicide prevention and associated human services sectors.

Essentially, the Summit engages leaders in leading and delivering the essential reforms necessary to deliver better outcomes for individuals, the broader population and the system.

The Summit is the opportunity to develop cross-sector knowledge, understanding and collaboration. It's an opportunity to develop a collective position around reform priorities for the next 1-5 years that's grounded in best practice and contemporary evidence.

The reform agenda

Queensland has renewed its reform agenda through the following strategies and plans, which provide the blueprint for driving reform over the next five years.

About the Commission

Our job is system reform

We work with government, non-government and private agencies throughout Queensland to engage, inform and inspire reform, because we recognise it takes collective action at all levels and across many sectors to create genuine and lasting change.

Our work extends beyond the health system and acknowledges the holistic needs and broad range of issues faced by people with a lived and living experience of mental illness, problematic alcohol and other drug use, and those affected by suicide.

We identify issues and priorities, advise on reform options, support the efforts of others to implement change, and monitor progress.

Mental health and wellbeing

Our job is to encourage and facilitate change to improve the mental health and wellbeing of all Queenslanders, with a focus on:

  • improving the mental health and wellbeing of all Queenslanders
  • preventing and reducing the impact of mental illness
  • preventing and reducing the impact of problematic alcohol and other drug use
  • preventing and reducing the impact of suicide.

We work with others to achieve reform

To achieve reform we work in partnership with others and actively seek the views and experiences of people with a lived and living experience to help shape the reform agenda.

We work across a broad range of portfolio areas including health, communities, education, child safety, employment, police, corrections, the economy and justice.

This includes people who have lived or living experience, their families, carers and supporters, as well as decision-makers, funders, advocates, frontline workers and service providers, in both government, non-government and private sectors.
